LeBron James had options this summer. Stephen Curry would have loved to play with him on a nostalgia tour in Golden State. Cleveland wanted him to come home. Again.
LeBron chose the Philadelphia 76ers because he saw it as his best chance to win — and he took a huge discount to do it, playing for the veteran minimum. He wanted to team up with Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid to chase a ring.
“I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point? I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win, and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship,” is how LeBron put it on X back in July when he made his announcement.
Now, finally, we get to see his debut for the 76ers. Here’s everything you need to know to watch LeBron’s first game with Philadelphia, as well as the 2026 NBA season on NBC and Peacock.
Is LeBron debuting on NBA Opening Night?
Yes, LeBron James will debut as a Philadelphia 76er at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, when his 76ers take on the defending champion New York Knicks on ring night, the marquee game of the NBA’s opening-night triple-header, broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
It’s a star-studded opening night that opens with Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics traveling to take on Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons, a showdown between the top two seeds in the East last season. At 7:00 PM, Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks begin their NBA title defense as they take on LeBron, Brown, and the 76ers at Madison Square Garden. Capping off the night at 9:30 PM, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder face Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in a rematch of the 2026 Western Conference Finals.
