Jon Stewart isn’t giving up his “Daily Show” chair just yet.

The comedian has extended his deal to host the Comedy Central talk show on Monday nights through 2028, with a rotating cast of correspondents including Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic continuing to handle hosting duties Tuesday through Thursday. The move will keep Stewart on the air through two more election cycles, with his tenure notably scheduled to end at the same time as Donald Trump’s second presidential term.

The announcement comes amid Paramount absorbing Warner Bros. Discovery and becoming Skydance, and how the newly formed conglomerate will handle provocative late night hosts has been a hot topic, given controversies over Stephen Colbert’s exit from the airwaves and the overhaul of “60 Minutes.” But for now, one of the company’s most politically outspoken voices remains untouched. Questions remain for former “Daily Show” correspondent John Oliver and his HBO series “Last Week Tonight,” which is now owned by Skydance.

“Jon Stewart is a generational talent and The Daily Show continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central. We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award winning news team,” George Cheeks, co-chair and chief content officer of Skydance TV, said in a statement.

Stewart famously hosted “The Daily Show” from 1999 through February 2015. His coverage of the Bush and Obama administrations on the show made him arguably the definitive political comedian of the early 21st century. After leaving the show, he remained active as a political commentator, directing the 2020 campaign finance satire “Irresistible” and hosting the short-lived Apple TV series “The Problem with Jon Stewart.”

After a nine-year hiatus, Stewart returned to “The Daily Show” in 2024, agreeing to host the show on Monday nights through that year’s presidential election. He has continued in that capacity for two additional years, and the new deal ensures that his second stint with the show will last for at least five years.

In addition to hosting once a week, Stewart will continue to serve as an executive producer on “The Daily Show” alongside showrunner Jen Flanz and his longtime manager James Dixon. He also hosts “The Weekly Show” podcast in addition to his on-air hosting duties.
