Yakuza: Dead Souls is now #playable on PC at 60FPS thanks to RPCS3, the PlayStation 3 emulator.

The PlayStation 3’s library is an extensive collection of bangers and yet so few of them are available on current-gen hardware.
Even worse is some of the games that are playable can only be accessed through PlayStation Plus Premium as cloud-streamed titles. Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas for example.
Fortunately in 2026 fans are hard at work on getting beloved classics from our past playable on our current set-ups. One of the latest PC ports brings a PlayStation 3 hidden gem back from the dead, as it’s quite the rarity nowadays.
This PlayStation 3 spin-off is one for the Dead Rising and Resident Evil crowd
Zombies have taken over the fictional city of Kamurocho. Civilians run scared and the Japanese government has no idea what to do next.
Braving the horde is a group of borderline superhuman residents with ties to the criminal underworld, better known as the Yakuza.
That’s right, Yakuza: Dead Souls is now playable on PC at 60FPS thanks to RPCS3, the PlayStation 3 emulator.
The game has struggled with playability issues on PC for quite a while now, but thanks to the work of community members Yahfz and FlexBy you can now play this bizarre spin-off with little to no technical problems. Aside from being playable at 60FPS stability issues have also been fixed.
It’s a good one to play as we creep closer to Halloween. While the quality differs it’s up there with the likes of Dead Rising and some Resident Evil titles for the silliest zombie game in existence. There are some serious moments for sure, but a lot to make you laugh along the way.

What is Yakuza: Dead Souls?
For those unaware Yakuza: Dead Souls is a third-person shooter developed by RGG Studios for the PlayStation 3.
The spin-off sees you take control of beloved characters such as Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima, as they explore the zombie-infested horrors of Kamurocho.
It’s… not very good, but it’s a fun idea. There’s a greater focus on gunplay in this entry which is very different to the hand-to-hand combat that makes Yakuza so memorable. The controls are pretty wonky too.
The story is often praised, but the gameplay generally lets it down. Because of this it received bang-average reviews on launch.
We’re still fans though. It’s become a bit of a cult-classic over the years and because of how few copies were sold it’s quite hard to get hold of on the secondhand market. Copies well exceed over $100 and we’ve even seen some as high as $300 depending on where you look.
My copy of the game cost £70 which wasn’t too bad considering its rarity, but still quite a lot. Here’s something to remember if you want to play this one for yourself though…
The PlayStation 3 is a region-locked console meaning it can play discs from all around the world. Over in Japan more copies of Yakuza: Dead Souls were sold meaning you can secure a cheaper copy by buying from overseas, as long as you’re happy with the cover art being in Japanese.
You’ll also need a physical copy of the game to play it via RPCS3, otherwise you’d have to get the ROM online which is illegal.
Yakuza: Dead Souls really needs a new-gen port of some kind. If physical media really is on its way out, we at least need a way of playing these games without the original hardware.
That said, RGG Studios has been doing well with the Yakuza remakes so far. If it wants to get creative, Yakuza: Dead Souls could be next.
