Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight elites Alexander Volkanovski vs. Movsar Evloev will clash TONIGHT (Sat., Oct. 24, 2026) inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for UFC 333.
Volkanovski is a rare breed. “The Great” was already a solid candidate for greatest Featherweight of all time before his second title reign, which only took place after a brutal pair of knockout losses that would’ve ended the career of a lesser fighter. Instead, Volkanovski continues to deny both Father Time and the odds, and this is a major moment for his legacy.
Evloev is the latest heir-apparent at 145 pounds. The undefeated Russian hasn’t necessary set the world aflame in his ten-straight UFC victories, yet he’s clearly one of the best fighters on the roster. His long-awaited title shot is finally here, but he’ll have to overcome a difficult style clash if he’s to make good on his championship potential.
Let’s take a closer look at the betting odds and strategic keys for each athlete:

How Volkanovski Wins
Volkanovski is one of the most adaptable fighters in the game, the result of impressive brainpower and a well-rounded enough skill set to offer multiple paths to victory. We have seen Volkanovski wrestle on offense and defense, pressure and counter, operate as both a southpaw and orthodox fighter — the Australian champion can do it all.
In this matchup, he’ll once again be relegated to the role of anti-wrestler. Evloev isn’t a nonstop takedown artist like a Merab Dvalishvili, but he tends to win fights via top control time. To end his undefeated run, Volkanovski has to stop the shot and do damage on the feet, which will start to mitigate the effectiveness of Evloev’s takedowns.
Fortunately, Volkanovski has excellent technical takedown defense and general scrambling. He demonstrated against Islam Makhachev that he knows exactly how to compete with a world-class wrestler, and Evloev isn’t quite the same challenge.
In the first bout against Makhachev, Volkanovski struggled because he was forced to close so much distance against the taller man. He tried to overcome this issue by shifting into his punches, which eventually worked but saw him taken down several times while between stances. Volkanovski doesn’t have to reach so far to hit his opponent, so he can pressure without exposing his hips.
Volkanovski is the much better kickboxer. If he’s pressing forward behind the jab and calf kick, his right hand is going to start landing sooner than later.
How Evloev Wins
Evloev is an interesting fighter. He’s an exceptional wrestler, capable of blasting a double or chaining together expert scrambles. His kickboxing is far less developed, though still tricky, and Evloev will often spend more time on the feet than is perhaps necessary.
Striking excessively with Volkanovski should not be on his agenda.
Volkanovski is not an easy man to wrestle, yet that’s Evloev’s path to victory. The hope is that he’s able to slowly wear our “The Great.” Famously conditioned, Evloev is young and has far fewer miles on the tank. If he’s able to make it this five-round fight a constant grind, perhaps Evloev’s youth and physicality are able to take over in the latter half of the fight.
Otherwise, Evloev has to blend his wrestling and striking threat. Nobody strikes as well when faced with the constant threat of a double leg shot. If Evloev is frequently feinting shots then exploding into combinations and using failed takedowns to land punches, it’ll go a long way in helping him control the flow of the fight.

Volkanovski vs. Evloev Prediction
I have a hard time seeing Evloev’s path to victory here. Volkanovski may be a little long in the tooth, but he’s still a remarkably good MMA fighter capable of five hard rounds. I don’t really believe there’s a Featherweight in UFC history capable of consistently holding him down in a five-round fight.
Furthermore, I am unconvinced that Evloev is THAT GUY! He may be undefeated, but I don’t know that he deserved the nod over Arnold Allen or Lerone Murphy. Volkanovski is better than both, and the style matchup is even further in his favor.
And still.
