Harry Kane forgot to mention three of his former managers during his 12-minute Ballon d’Or-winning speech – but who were they?
After netting 61 goals in 51 competitive games for Bayern in 2025/26, Kane rightfully picked up the 70th edition of the Ballon d’Or at the London Palladium Theatre on Monday evening (October 26), as Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal had to settle for second and third place respectively.
Kane’s goals helped Vincent Kompany’s Bayern secure a domestic double last term, while his contributions also guided England to a third-place finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

What did Harry Kane say after winning the Ballon d’Or?
Several Spurs, Bayern and England supporters have thanked Kane for his contributions to their teams over the years. The 33-year-old was keen to name several key figures in his 12-minute Ballon d’Or acceptance speech last night.
“Wow, wow, wow. I’m almost speechless,” Kane began. “I’m lucky to have this [his speech] here. First of all, thank you again to France Football, to the Ballon d’Or for putting on this amazing event. Being here in London has made it extra special and feels like a good omen for me tonight, so thank you very much.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I can imagine it was really tough this year. There were some incredible players I was up against, including some of my team-mates and world-class players in the room tonight, so thank you to everyone who voted for me. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees tonight – an impressive showing of what determination and hard work can really achieve, so well done.
“I’ve got a few of my Bayern Munich team-mates here tonight: Michael [Olise], Upa [Dayot Upamecano], Lucho [Luis Díaz] and Lenny [Lennart Karl]. Without you guys and the rest of the team, it wouldn’t be possible. The way you guys push me and the way we compete – me against Upa in training every week – make me a better player and make me want to improve, so thank you very much.
“To Vinnie [Vincent Kompany], I know he’s at home – or I think he’s still in hospital – so I’m wishing you well. I hope this has given you a bit of energy. To Vinnie and all the staff, the way we train and the way you push us are a credit to you all. Since I’ve been with you, I’ve improved as a player, no doubt, and as a person and a leader. That’s thanks to your leadership.”
Kane then thanked current England head coach Thomas Tuchel before highlighting the role Spurs have played in his career, with the forward joining the club as an 11-year-old.
The England skipper also thanked several of his academy coaches, including Bradley Allen, Chris Ramsey, John McDermott, Alex Inglethorpe, Tim Sherwood and Ryan Mason, as well as managers Kenny Jackett, Russell Slade, Harry Redknapp, Mauricio Pochettino, José Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Roy Hodgson and Gareth Southgate.
Speaking about the impact his coaches have had, Kane said: “You all played a big role in my development at different stages in my life, and without each and every one of you, I wouldn’t be standing here today. For sure, I learned a lot, and when you surround yourself with the best people and the best coaches, it only improves you as a person and as a player, so thank you very much.”
However, former Spurs boss Nuno Espírito Santo did not get a mention during the speech. André Villas-Boas, who handed Kane his Premier League debut against Newcastle in August 2012, was also left out. The former Spurs striker also forgot to mention former England boss Sam Allardyce, although he may be forgiven given that ‘Big Sam’ lasted just one game as England manager in 2016.
“I want to give a shout-out to some of my coaches who have helped me along the way, and if I’ve forgotten anyone, I’m really sorry,” Kane said during his speech.
Kane will now turn his attention to Bayern’s DFB-Pokal second-round clash against Magdeburg tomorrow (October 28).
