Stardew Valley players can now pick up a brand new mod which adds Cooking Mama-style minigames for preparing food.
The Cooking Mama series may have been phased out a few years ago, but its unique approach to minigame design is something that has stayed with fans over the past few decades.
If you’re looking for something to fill that void until a new Cooking Mama game is announced, though, this new mod for Stardew Valley could tickle your fancy.
Interactive – Hands On Cooking is a new mod which adds these new minigames whenever you come to fixing up a meal in-game.
“Cook like Cooking Mama in Stardew,” reads the mod description. “Knock the egg on the rim (three times, not four), slice on the dotted lines, whisk without splashing, flick the pan to flip, and pull bread out at the ding. Every vanilla recipe is cooked by hand in a cozy pixel kitchen, and your cooking decides the quality.”
It works by clicking a recipe at your stove, which opens up a new menu featuring a pixel-art kitchen that you can actually start cooking at. After that, you can actually start cooking it by simulating real actions as you cook. Slice along dotted lines, knock eggs on the edge of a pan, slide trays into the oven, and so on.

Hands On Cooking for Stardew Valley affects all 81 vanilla meals
The mod supports actions for every recipe in the vanilla game, meaning all 81 dishes get their own steps across 34 cooking styles.
For example, making pancakes requires you to measure the ingredients, crack eggs, whisk them together, pour it all in, and then flip before dishing up. For pizza, it’s roll the dough, chop up the toppings, bake it, and then slice into pieces.
Each aspect of these meals is brought to life through the minigames, and it’s pretty clear that modder wxunlimited has taken extra care to ensure each meal has an authentic and realistic depiction of the cooking process.
The mod also features progression for those who want to keep improving their culinary skills. The new skill metre ranges from levels 1-10, with players being able to grab perks and other bonuses as they improve their cooking. This also paves the way for food-related professions you can take on, like ‘prep chef’, ‘saucier’, and ‘hearty meals’, which allow you to take things further.
Clint also provides you with upgrades to your kitchen, allowing you to upgrade your skillets, knives, pots, and whisks with new, stronger materials, which affects the quality of the overall cook.
Cooking perfect dishes also turns them into iridium-quality hand-crafted meals, which results in +25% friendship if you gift it to another character. Meanwhile, Great, Good and Okay meals give gold, silver, and normal quality.
