The Sea Has No Mercy-г гаргаж байна.
Ballad of a Well-Known Gun
The Sea Has No Mercy

Bernie Taupin has said he no long feels “even remotely” British, having lived in the US for five decades.
The songwriter, known for his decades-long career as Elton John’s lyricist, accompanied the “Rocket Man” singer to the US on a tour years ago, and decided to move there shortly afterwards. He became a US citizen in 1990.
Speaking to The Guardian, Taupin admitted that he no longer feels connected to his British roots, admitting: “I have no British tendencies whatsoever.

“None of my friends or people I interact with in the States think of me as British because I’m so assimilated into American culture.”

Before moving to the US, the Lincolnshire-born celebrity was an ardent Americanophile, and had drawn on US iconography in his music, in songs such as “Ballad of a Well-Known Gun” on John’s 1970 album Tumbleweed Connection.
Recalling his initial trip to the US, Taupin explained: “I immediately thought, ‘I could live here for the rest of my life.’ I moved there as soon as I could afford it, living very, very cheaply in places I rented that were pretty appalling. I just loved it. I never, ever, ever got homesick.”

He also spoke about his daughter – a professional bull rider and “rodeo star in Texas” who “barrel races” and is “100 per cent cowgirl”.
“You couldn’t pry her out of Texas with a crowbar,” Taupin joked.
Elsewhere in the interview, Taupin spoke about the origins of John’s 1983 hit “I’m Still Standing”, a track released amid a turbulent time in John’s personal life that served as an affirmation of his own resilience.

“‘I’m Still Standing’ was a sort of kiss-off to an ex-girlfriend, but I didn’t tell Elton that,” Taupin recalled.
“I wanted him to do his own take and it sounded like Elton singing about himself because it was on our big comeback album, Too Low for Zero. So it felt like him talking about his own resilience.”

Speaking about his comparatively low profile – when juxtaposed with John – Taupin said: “Elton’s probably one of the most recognisable people in the world.
“I understand why he has to have a security team, but I could not live like that. I live in a very very small community, near Santa Barbara: everybody knows me, I know everybody, nobody treats me in any way other than as a friend. I’ve gone way past being regarded as somebody remotely special and I love that more than anything.”
Taupin is now releasing an album titled The Sea Has No Mercy, his fourth solo album and first since 1987’s Tribe.
