Monday in the Garden, the Nets let a sorry fourth quarter spoil three solid ones.

But two nights later, they closed the deal.

This time the Nets held their poise and held on for a comfortable 114-104 victory over visiting Charlotte.

It was payback for a humbling season-opening loss against these same Hornets. And after a win in Indiana — and taking a lead into the fourth quarter on the road at the reigning NBA champion Knicks — there are signs of the Nets making strides.

Michael Porter Jr. had a team-high 26 points and 10 rebounds to finish plus-17. Julius Randle scored 22 points, while lottery pick Mikel Brown Jr. added a career-high 18 points and four assists off the bench.

But most auspicious was their fourth-quarter offense. After it deserted the Nets (2-6) two nights earlier — when they coughed up a 25-5 run to open the final period, and shot 3 of 16 with seven turnovers to undo their good work — this time they looked like a cohesive, communicative unit.

The Nets shot 50.6 percent and 14-for-37 from deep.

And they outscored the Hornets 34-24 in the fourth, shooting 51.2 percent and 8 of 22 from deep.

“Yeah, the seven quarters that we saw — from Indiana, four plus the three at the Garden — I think that that was who we want to be,” Jordi Fernández said. “And obviously the not being organized in the fourth offensively and the turnovers and the lack of execution, we just worked on it.

“So it’s not something that it’s not fixable. So that’s the beauty of this league, right? Watch it, learn, work at it, and now move on to the next one. So I think we’re getting better. I think that’s the proper steps you have to take.”

The Nets defense was stout from the start, forcing six straight misses and a turnover to open the game.

Day’Ron Sharpe had a career-high eight assists.

A Randle 3-pointer gave the Nets a 40-37 edge with 5:42 left in the first half.

They surrendered it to an extended 20-7 Hornets run, falling behind by 10 on a Grayson Allen 3-pointer with a minute left in the half.

The Nets were still down 59-50 a minute into the third quarter.

But they promptly reeled off 11 unanswered to take the momentum and the lead.

Danny Wolf (12 points, plus-17) capped the run on a 3-pointer off a Randle feed, giving the Nets a 61-59 edge.

They couldn’t hold it, falling behind again, 78-72 with two minutes left in the third.

But they seized it back with a four-minute, 17-5 run that spanned the periods, and flipped a six-point deficit into a six-point cushion.

Randle found Brown for a kick-out 3-pointer that put the Nets ahead 89-83.

And this time — unlike two nights earlier in the Garden — they held their poise. And held on for the victory.

“Yeah, fourth quarter is winning time, for sure. A lot of these guys haven’t been in that position a lot,” Porter said. “But as a group, especially the veteran guys, we’ve got to emphasize that the fourth quarter is a completely different game than three quarters prior and you have to really [focus].”
