Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight sluggers Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs. Johnny Walker will clash TONIGHT (Sat., Nov. 7, 2026) inside Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, for UFC Vegas 124.
As replacement main events go (more on that here) … this isn’t terrible? Cortes-Acosta has settled into the historic Derrick Lewis role. He’s now a Top 10 mainstay and fighting so often that he can rebound from losses quickly. He may be losing to the truly elite contenders, but “Salsa Boy” might still end up fighting for the title at some point just because there are so few Heavyweights in the upper echelon.
Walker, conversely, is a new face in the division. It’s hard to imagine Walker contending after being on the wrong side of so many brutal knockout losses (like this), but maybe halting the drastic weight cut has gifted him a more trustworthy chin? His Heavyweight debut was certainly a fun splash, as he erased Mick Parkin in the very first round to prove his big man potential (re-live that here).
Let’s take a closer look at the betting odds and strategic keys for each athlete:

How Cortes-Acosta Wins
Cortes-Acosta probably has the division’s best jab, and his right hand carries real venom when he throws it. He’s occasionally too passive on the feet, but Cortes-Acosta is difficult to take down, has a brick chin, and is reasonably conditioned for 15 minutes of combat.
At Heavyweight in 2026, that’s good enough for No. 6 in the rankings.
If I could boil down this section to a single sentence, it would be this: throw the right hand. Walker likes to mystify his opponents with movement and flashy kicks, but Cortes-Acosta is a tank. He shrugged off the punches of Sergei Pavlovich, so he can take a stray blow or two from Walker.
Attacking is worth the risk. Cortes-Acosta is the better boxer and much more likely to survive exchanges. If he puts power on Walker’s chin, the Brazilian is going to crumble, and we cannot say the same in return. Cortes-Acosta doesn’t have to be reckless, but the risk of defeat is greater if he hangs back and tries to jab against a longer kicker (see the Alexander Volkov loss).
How Walker Wins
Walker is a big, athletic weirdo. He’s at his best when flowing between whacky techniques like jump knees and spinning backfists that carry massive impact potential. Conversely, he’s less dangerous when he tries to be “technical,” which is code for circling a lot, throwing some low kicks, and rarely committing his weight to his offense.
Fortunately, two knockout wins in his last three fights indicates that Walker has returned to his roots.
In this bout, Walker wants to avoid the boxing range. He should be far away from Cortes-Acosta, punishing the lead leg and mid-section with kicks as often as possible. We saw Volkov wear down “Salsa Boy” earlier this year with that exact strategy, and Walker has the powerful kicks and range to create similar success.
A less explosive Cortes-Acosta is less likely to knock out Walker.
When Cortes-Acosta does push forward, Walker has to occasionally stand his ground and clinch up. He can’t just run away, as Cortes-Acosta will likely start to find his timing and catch him leaning away from an exchange — bad news! Instead, Walker can use his clinch offense to interrupt the boxing of Cortes-Acosta and perhaps wear him down further with a few well-placed knees to the belly.
Knocking out Cortes-Acosta has thus far been an impossible task, but out-pointing him is certainly feasible.
Cortes-Acosta vs. Walker Prediction
This matchup feels all wrong for Walker. The Brazilian can hit exceptionally hard with his knees and elbows, but Cortes-Acosta eats big shots for breakfast. Unless that suddenly changes, “Salsa Boy” is going to continue to pressure and test Walker’s defenses for the full 25 minutes. Even at his moderate pace, it feels incredibly like that he finds the chin at some point in that span.
Even if Walker is a little more durable at Heavyweight, getting rocked affects the judges’ scorecards, too.
