The New York Knicks are NBA Champions. Read it again. It’s real.
For the first time since 1973, Larry O’Brien resides in the Big Apple.
With a 94-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs, the Knicks beat the Spurs in five games to clinch the franchise’s third-ever championship and first in 53 years.
Throughout the series, there have been record numbers of viewers watching the darlings of the country’s number one market chase that elusive title. With the Knicks having secured the trophy, the world flocked to social media to offer their congratulations.
President Donald Trump, a lifelong Knicks fan who attended Game 3 in Madison Square Garden, the only game the Knicks lost, offered his congratulations. He singled out Knicks owner James Dolan, who sat with him in the luxury box in Game 3, and the ascendance of Jalen Brunson into NBA lore among plaudits lobbed at other notable Knicks.

Former president Barack Obama reflected on the Knicks’ run. After losing Game 3 in the first round to the Atlanta Hawks to go down 2-1, New York went 15-1 over its next 16 games to win the title.
Congrats to Coach Brown, Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, OG, and the rest of these incredible NBA Champion @NYKnicks! What a run! https://t.co/CI2aHIYHal

In 2023 Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon publicly doubted Jalen Brunson could be a “1A guy” because she felt his 6-foot-2-inch frame was too small. In May, as the Knicks started closing on a Finals opportunity she told reporters she was “up for being proven wrong.” Former All-NBA guard Isaiah Thomas, who made two All-Star teams and led the Boston Celtics to the Eastern Conference finals in 2017 after averaging 28.9 points per game at just 5 feet 9, took to X at the time to quetion the doubt Hammon expressed about small guards.
Now Brunson is an NBA Finals MVP. Thomas didn’t forget Hammon’s comments.
Jalen Brunson thank you!!! Don’t run away from “small” guards! You can win with them too. Just gotta believe and give em a real opportunity

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a lifelong native of New York, reacted to her city’s wildest dreams being achieved.

And one of the Knicks players himself, Josh Hart, found time to chime in after the game. Hart averaged 7.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in the Finals.
FROM NOW ON ADDRESS ME AS CHAMP! 🧡💙
