Ryan Coogler‘s The X-Files reboot has cleared a significant stage in its development, offering the strongest sign yet that the project is moving closer to screens. The revival has been steadily progressing behind the scenes, but its future now depends on one final decision.

Ryan Coogler’s upcoming The X-Files reboot has reached a key milestone, with production on its pilot episode now complete. While Hulu has yet to announce whether the project will receive a full series order, the completion of filming marks significant progress for the long-awaited revival of the iconic sci-fi franchise.
The production update was confirmed by Himesh Patel during an interview with The Direct while promoting Enola Holmes 3. Although the actor remained cautious about revealing story details, he confirmed that work on the pilot has officially concluded. He also clarified that he and Danielle Deadwyler are portraying entirely new characters.
“I don’t want to say anything that’s going to get me disappeared. Needless to say, myself and Danielle Deadwyler are playing completely new characters, and we just wrapped on the pilot. If we get to do more… we’ll see where we go from there,” Patel said.
Coogler has written and directed the pilot, continuing development of the reboot under his Proximity Media banner. The story centers on two FBI agents who are assigned to a long-closed division that handles unexplained cases, forcing them to work together. Chris Carter, the creator of The X-Files, remains attached as an executive producer, and Jennifer Yale is serving as showrunner.
The pilot was filmed under the working title Alphabet Soup. Now that production has wrapped, the project is waiting on Hulu to decide whether it will move ahead as a full series, which would allow Patel and Deadwyler’s characters to continue beyond the pilot.
