DC Studios is moving quickly into its next phase of releases, with Lanterns set to reach viewers before Clayface makes its theatrical debut. The HBO Max series is scheduled to arrive next month and adds another high-profile project to the studio’s growing DCU lineup. The project also features a star-studded cast and forms part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
Lanterns to hit HBO Max next month
DC Studios has confirmed that Lanterns will be the next major live-action project to arrive after Supergirl. While Clayface remains on track for its theatrical debut later this year, the upcoming DCU series will reach HBO Max first when it premieres on August 16, 2026.
The series will span eight episodes and forms part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King, the series’ story will bring together Green Lantern veteran Hal Jordan and new recruit John Stewart. Played by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, respectively, the pair are assigned to investigate a murder in Nebraska, a case that draws them into a small town with dangerous secrets.
As the investigation progresses, Jordan and Stewart rely on their emerald power rings. It allows them to create green light constructs of any shape or size, as they work to solve a mystery that could ultimately destroy them both. A previously released trailer offers a closer look at the dynamic between Hal and John while teasing the challenges awaiting the pair. It also offers brief glimpses of the Green Lantern suit, power ring, and power battery.
The series’ cast also includes Kelly Macdonald as Kerry, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Poorna Jagannathanas Zoe, and Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, among others. Lanterns is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television.
Meanwhile, Clayface is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 23, 2026, after moving from its original September 11 release date.
