Scouts who watched Cameron Boozer‘s summer league debut in Salt Lake City were particularly impressed with the former Duke star’s passing, writes Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

The Grizzlies selected the 18-year-old big man with the third overall pick in last month’s draft. Boozer opened the game with a two-handed dunk over 7’3″ Thunder lottery pick Aday Mara, and finished with 15 points (on 7-of-11 shooting), four rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes in a blowout win over Oklahoma City.

It felt comfortable,” Boozer said. “Obviously, it’s still an adjustment because going to a whole new team, whole new system, you got [only] one week of practice before playing. But I felt good, especially with this group. They’re very easy to play with, just because everyone’s playing for each other, playing the right way. So, I feel comfortable. Obviously, there’s a lot of learning to do still, but I feel good, for sure.”

Boozer was asked about being the centerpiece of the Grizzlies’ new youth movement, per Drew Hill of The Daily Memphian (Twitter link).

I think that’s a responsibility that I’ve had my whole career,” Boozer said. “But the first thing you have to do is show up and show you deserve that.

That takes work. That takes showing up every day and doing the right things.”

Here are a few more notes related to the Salt Lake City and California Classic summer leagues before the league-wide event begins in Las Vegas:

  • Seventh overall pick Darius Acuff Jr. shook off a poor shooting night to help the Kings win their opening game at the Sacramento portion of the California Classic, according to Devon Henderson of The Athletic. Acuff had a game-high 25 points in 24 minutes, but he shot just 9-of-29 from the field and had some defensive lapses. Still, he made some key plays late in the fourth quarter, including dishing out the assist on Nique Clifford‘s game-winning three-pointer. “It was a rough start; I was getting rushed a little bit,” Acuff said. “Something I don’t normally do, but I’m just glad we got the win, and I stayed poised down the stretch.”
  • Former St. John’s big man Zuby Ejiofor had eight points (on 2-of-7 shooting), 11 rebounds, three steals and two assists in his Hawks debut in Salt Lake City. The 23rd pick in the 2026 draft said last week that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to carve out a role in the NBA, as Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes (subscriber link). “You’re just understanding that, just coming in as a rookie, nothing’s going to be handed to you,” Ejiofor said Wednesday after practice. “You just got to go out there, you got to earn your spot on the team, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I’m just trying to just be the best teammate I could possibly be, provide energy and come in and find out what my role is going to be, and try to make an impact wherever it may be on the court.”
  • Tarris Reed Jr. plans to bring an “ugly, gritty” approach to the Spurs‘ frontcourt, per Jeff McDonald of The San Antonio Express-News. “I feel like that’s what helped us win (at UConn), man,” Reed said of his penchant for doing dirty work. “The part of the game you might not get a lot of credit for — my screening, my rebounding, my physicality, just being just a force down low on both sides of the court — if that’s what I got to do to win, sign me up.” San Antonio acquired the 6’11” center’s rights by trading for the 26th overall pick.
