Manchester City have completed the signing of highly-rated winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City as Enzo Maresca continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new season.
The 16-year-old becomes City’s fourth arrival of the summer after opting for a move to the Etihad despite strong interest from Arsenal.
Monga emerged as one of English football’s brightest young prospects after breaking into Leicester’s first team last season.
The winger made 27 Championship appearances for the Foxes, scoring once and providing two assists during a difficult campaign that ended with relegation to League One.
Leicester’s financial position following relegation meant player sales were expected as the club looked to comply with English Football League regulations.
Arsenal had been heavily linked with the teenager earlier in the summer, with reports suggesting an opening offer from the North London club had been rejected.
City’s summer rebuild continues
Monga is the fourth player to arrive at Manchester City this summer following the appointments of Mathys Detourbet, goalkeeper Pierce Charles and midfielder Elliot Anderson.
Anderson’s move from Nottingham Forest saw City break the British transfer record with a deal worth £116 million.
The arrivals are part of a new era at the Etihad under Maresca, who succeeded Pep Guardiola earlier this summer after the Spaniard’s departure.
Teenager calls move a dream come true
Monga admitted the opportunity to join Manchester City was impossible to turn down once he learned of the club’s interest.
“When I became aware that Manchester City were interested, I knew instantly this was the right choice for me,” he told the club’s official website.
“For any young footballer, to become part of this amazing club is a dream come true.”
