Conor McGregor’s UFC 329 comeback was a disaster, but the former two-division champion doesn’t sound discouraged.
In the wake of Saturday’s main event loss to Max Holloway, McGregor has remained active on social media, providing the public with updates on his status. McGregor, fighting for the first time since 2021, suffered a leg injury that ended his rematch with Holloway just 69 seconds into the fight, and afterwards he released a statement lamenting the situation and denying that the result had anything to do with a pre-existing injury.
McGregor released another statement Monday via Instagram in which he wrote the next move for him is to undergo surgery—the exact nature of the injury remains unspecified—and then fulfill the final fight of his UFC contract.
“All things work out for my good,” McGregor wrote. “All things are possible for me because I am a believer. Surgery. Prehab. Return to martial arts practice. Go again. Final fight of the contract.”
McGregor, who turns 38 on Tuesday, made his first in-cage appearance since breaking his leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. His return to competition faced numerous delays, notably another injury in 2024 that stifled a comeback fight against The Ultimate Fighter 31 coaching rival Michael Chandler. Numerous other factors have derailed his fighting career, including McGregor being found liable for sexual assault in a civil suit that was resolved in November 2024, a bizarre presidential bid in his native Ireland that never got off the ground, and pursuing other business opportunities including an ownership stake in BKFC.

There is no timetable for McGregor’s return, but the UFC star and his team initially planned for him to be out of his contract by April 2027 the latest. Depending on the severity of McGregor’s injury, that date is likely to be pushed back.
Holloway has already volunteered to be McGregor’s last UFC opponent in the hopes of completing a trilogy that dates back to 2013. McGregor won the first fight via decision, and Holloway now holds a technical knockout victory over McGregor, evening the series at 1-1.
