Disney+ orders a brand-new Archie TV series coming from the team behind Riverdale. The upcoming show will be based on a popular comic book series from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasaand Francesco Francavilla.
What do we know about the new Archie TV show from the Riverdale team?
The new Archie TV show from Disney+ will be called Afterlife With Archie, based on Aguirre-Sacasa and Francavilla’s comic series of the same name, reports Variety. It began in 2013 and comprised 10 issues in total, while dealing with an alternate reality featuring a zombie apocalypse.
The Riverdale team has reunited for this new TV show, which was initially reported to be in development last year. The official logline for Afterlife With Archie reads, “When a supernatural spell from a certain teen-witch backfires, unleashing an army of the possessed dead upon Riverdale, Archie and his friends must fight to stay alive, testing the friendships, romances, and loyalties that have always held them together.”
Afterlife With Archie has Aguirre-Sacasa as the executive producer, who also wrote the script for the project. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman from Berlanti Productions, Jon Goldwater, and Jimmy Gibbons are also executive producing.
“Afterlife With Archie has always been about more than just zombies — it’s about the friendships, loyalty and humanity that make Riverdale worth fighting for,” said the President of Disney Kids & Family, Ayo Davis.
Hyping up the new TV show, Davis added, “Fans are going to fall hard for this new version of the gang … and maybe scream a little too.”
Before this new project, Aguirre-Sacasa and Berlanti Productions previously worked together on The CW’s Riverdale. “We are so happy to reunite with Roberto on this exciting series that takes us back into the Riverdale world that we so love,” said Berlanti and Schechter.
Disney+’s Afterlife With Archie TV show will be released around Halloween in 2027.
