Johnny Depp‘s gothic horror Sleepy Hollow is heading back to shelves with a new 4K SteelBook release this fall. The upgraded edition lands as Sony continues developing Hollow, a fresh take on Washington Irving’s classic story starring Sydney Sweeney.

The new 4K SteelBook edition of Sleepy Hollow arrives on September 22 and packs more than just improved picture quality. Alongside Tim Burton’s director commentary, the release includes the making-of documentary Behind the Legend and the retrospective featurette Reflections on Sleepy Hollow, offering a deeper look at one of Burton’s darkest films (via Collider).
Released in 1999, Sleepy Hollow reimagined Washington Irving’s famous tale with Johnny Depp as detective Ichabod Crane, who is sent to investigate a string of grisly beheadings in the eerie village of Sleepy Hollow.
Instead of dismissing local folklore, Crane finds himself confronting the terrifying Headless Horseman, played by Christopher Walken, while uncovering a conspiracy tied to Katrina Van Tassel, portrayed by Christina Ricci.
Burton approached the film as a tribute to classic Hammer horror productions, surrounding Depp with a cast that included Miranda Richardson, Michael Gambon, Christopher Lee, Ian McDiarmid and Michael Gough.
The film earned Academy Award nominations for its art direction, cinematography and costume design, received a 71% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossed around $206 million worldwide.
Meanwhile, Sony is developing Hollow, a modern reimagining from filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer. Sydney Sweeney is attached to the project as Katrina in a story described as centering on a supernatural love triangle, though additional plot details remain under wraps.
Sweeney is one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars in recent years through projects including HBO’s Euphoria, The White Lotus, Anyone But You, Immaculate and Madame Web. She is also set to appear in upcoming films such as The Housemaid and Split Fiction.
