A new documentary centered on Julie Andrews is officially on the way. Disney+ has announced a feature-length project exploring the acclaimed actress’s life and career. The film is expected to debut on the streaming service in 2027.
Disney+ to make a documentary on the legendary Julie Andrews
Disney+ officially set Julie Andrews as the focus of a new feature documentary. Most recently, the streaming platform confirmed that it is developing a film celebrating the legendary actress and singer.
The project will explore Andrews’ life and career through newly filmed interviews and extensive archival material, offering a comprehensive look at her life. The filmmakers currently plan to premiere the documentary globally on the streaming platform in 2027.
R.J. Cutler, whose previous credits include Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry and Martha, directs the project. Additionally, Deadline reports that the feature will include rare archival footage never released publicly, alongside new interviews with Andrews herself.
The documentary will follow her journey from a young performer on the British vaudeville stage to an internationally popular actress.
Known for her performances in Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and The Princess Diaries, the film will also examine the personal experiences that shaped her career. Most recently, Andrews lent her voice to Lady Whistledown in Netflix‘s Bridgerton.
Discussing the project, Cutler said, “Most people don’t know the extraordinary challenges she’s had to overcome throughout her life, all of which we delve into in this film.”
A Sony production banner is backing the documentary. Trevor Smith, Elise Pearlstein, Jane Cha Cutler, and Jonathan Ruane are producing alongside Cutler, while Mark Blatty serves as executive producer.
Disney+ has not yet announced an official title for the documentary.
