Following the release of Children of Blood and Bone‘s official trailer, it was met with controversy after author Tomi Adeyemi publicly disowned the upcoming film adaptation. In her recent social media post, Adeyemi described her experience working on the movie as “the worst thing I (she) have ever had to live through.” The author shared that she doesn’t want to be associated with the Children of Blood and Bone film ever again. She claimed that the stressful experience of being “antagonized behind the scenes” resulted in severe panic attacks and physical pain. Before Adeyemi made her shocking statement, fans of the book had already expressed disappointment over the creative team’s casting choices. They felt that the adaptation isn’t staying true to the beloved characters’ appearances in the book, accusing the production of colorism.

That’s why I believe that there’s still a huge chance that Children of Blood and Bone could overcome its behind-the-scenes controversies, depending on the adaptation’s quality and promotion.
