Alex Hirschi – aka Supercar Blondie – just sold her beloved Mercedes G-Wagen for a new Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast, and she’s revealed exactly what she loves and doesn’t love about it.
The Cybertruck and the G-Wagen, which was her most recent daily driver, aren’t exactly in the same category, and yet there are so many similarities.
We asked Alex a few questions, and the answers were quite juicy.
Including the one thing she really, really doesn’t like about the truck.
The Cyberbeast isn’t your first EV, so how does this compare to other EVs you’ve owned in terms of everyday usability?
Supercar Blondie confirmed that the Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast is a great daily driver, but with a catch.
“I enjoy using it as a daily because the all-wheel steering makes it super easy to get around. When I do a U-turn, the turning circle is so much better than every other car in front of me that I’ve seen go around the corner,” she said.
“It’s a huge car but it feels nimble on the road. It’s also super quick, which is important to me. I need to feel like I can get off the lights quickly, overtake quickly and not wait for the power to kick in.”
However, she said two things made it a bit annoying.
“The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t have CarPlay. Also, a few more small things should be tactile buttons rather than having to access everything through the screen,” she said.
“For example the side mirrors, please just make these things buttons.”
Hirschi is not alone when it comes to this, by the way.
Several Tesla owners have complained that Tesla is over-relying on digital buttons rather than physical buttons.
On paper, the Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast has similar performance figures to the McLaren 720S you used to own, but how different are they to drive?
Despite being in the same ballpark as far as performance figures go, Hirschi made it clear that they’re miles apart when it comes to actual driving experience.
“[They’re] super different [to] drive. The Cyberbeast sits high on the road which is a nice feeling to see over all the cars,” she said.
“It can also go over speed bumps quickly and because the tires are so big, you don’t have to worry about clipping corners and scraping a rim; the car just drives over them.
The McLaren 720S is super quick, but it’s so cramped inside, and I remember having to sort of turn to the side to fit both legs and feet in the footwell, [and] the pedals are super close to each other.”
“You’re also sitting very low to the road which feels great but you’ve got to be more aware of every dip and speed bump. I remember having to slow down a lot to make sure the car didn’t scrape anything,” she admitted.
Everyone’s talking about the truck’s steer-by-wire system, what do you think?
The Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast features steer-by-wire, which essentially means the steering wheel is not physically connected to the wheels, only digitally.
In Hirschi’s view, it’s great, but it takes some getting used to.
“One slight move of the wheel and the truck responds instantly. If you’re not used to it, it can feel quite jerky. [And] it’s more noticeable when you’re going slowly. Sometimes you move the wheel one centimeter too far and it feels like you’ve jumped a meter sideways,” she said.
“But I really like it because you never have to have one arm over the other turning the wheel multiple times trying to get around a corner. It’s just a simple little turn of the wheel and it’s done.”
If you could pick one feature from other cars you have owned and apply it to the Cybertruck Cyberbeast, what would it be?
“Definitely CarPlay. Having to mount a phone to use Google Maps is so annoying. I would also replace some of the screen buttons for real buttons,” she said.
Your other EV – the Rolls-Royce Spectre – isn’t exactly subtle, but which car gets the most attention?
‘Purists’ will be happy to hear that the OG of the car world – Rolls-Royce – can still beat the new kid on the block.
The Rolls-Royce, Alex confirmed, still gets a lot more attention than the Tesla.
“When the Cybertruck came out – probably for at least two years – it definitely got more attention than the Spectre. [But now] people are more used to seeing them and it doesn’t turn as many heads. It does still get looks, but the Spectre wins this one. It’s one of a kind, no one has seen this exact spec before,” she said.
Is there something you miss about your Mercedes G-Wagen, or maybe something the G-Wagen has that you wished the Cybertruck also had?
Supercar Blondie admitted that the Cybertruck’s cabin could be a bit more interesting, especially when compared to her Mercedes G-Wagen.
“The Cybertruck Cyberbeast looks pretty basic on the inside, and I miss the beautiful interior of the Mercedes G-Wagen because having that Tiffany Blue was spectacular,” Hirschi said.
“I also loved the roar of the engine in the Mercedes G-Wagen. Putting it in sport and shifting down always put a smile on my face.
“The pops and gurgles are fun. I know lots of owners love the hard close on the Mercedes G-Wagen, but I don’t miss having to slam the doors and tell everyone who travels with me that they need to open and close their door again.
“I also would like the truck to be more responsive to the key. Sometimes I have that credit card-shaped thing against the window for way longer than I think I should have to before it opens. I can change the settings so the car opens when it detects the key, but I’m too lazy to find out on the screen with one million different options how to do it.
“Sometimes it’s nice just to have a simpler car, with a normal car key, with normal buttons, like the G had.”
Does the Cybertruck feel even more conspicuous than the McLaren or the Lambo in Dubai?
The answer Alex Hirschi gave to this question confirms what people already sort of assumed: this is a love-it-or-hate-it vehicle.

“The Tesla Cybertruck is a funny one. Most people have an opinion because it looks so unusual. So either people think it’s embarrassing that I drive one, or that it’s cool. Either way I get ‘omg’ reactions,” she said.
“I think trucks lose some of their cool factor once they’re wrapped, because part of their unique look is the stainless steel body. But ultimately, I still think the Cybertruck gets more attention than many supercars in Dubai.”
What are your favorite fun features of the Cybertruck?
“Well, I only have two cars now, but I have to say I really the Cybertruck Cyberbeast.
“I like the credit card-shaped key. I can easily put it in my pocket or wallet, instead of having something bulky. I like that you can adjust how the horn sounds.
“I like how when you press the door open button, the door automatically pops out so you can open it easily.
“I really like the all-wheel steering. I think every car should have it. The steer-by-wire is also great once you get used to it. The car really feels light and small and easy to maneuver.”
She also added that she doesn’t regret going fully electric.
“I’m really enjoying my two EVs. I really like the opportunity to go for a drive and hear the engine, but only when I want to. I kind of got sick of hearing a really loud engine every single time I got in to a car,” she admitted.
“It’s nice to have something quick and quiet to get around and then something loud and powerful when you want that experience.
“I also love never having to go to the gas station now that I can charge both my cars at home. I also love how quick and lightweight they feel to drive.”
