The Big Bang Theory’s newest and wildest spin-off, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, has brought back another original character in the latest episode. This comes after Kunal Nayyar and Kaley Cuoco returned as alternate versions of their characters, Raj and Penny, respectively.
Giant Bernadette may be the most perfectly ridiculous Big Bang callback yet.
Melissa Rauch returned as Bernadette Rostenkowski in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Episode 3, but with a twist. Like Nayyar and Cuoco, she plays an alternate version of her Big Bang Theory character. Moreover, Rauch is around 4 feet 10 to 11 inches tall, and her character’s height has been part of a running gag in the original series. So, perhaps, it’s only fitting that she plays a demonic Bernadette, who turns into an 80-foot monster and destroys Pasadena.
“When they told me it was going to be an 80-foot-tall Bernadette… my goal height has always been five feet,” Rauch recalled during an interview with TVLine. “So to get 75 extra feet to play with was thrilling.”
Rauch also shed light on how the Stuart Fails to Save the Universe team filmed the sequence in which she wrecks Pasadena, revealing that they created a miniature version of the city. “To pick up a tiny building was the greatest rush,” Rauch explained. “They had a Barbie for me to pick up, and then I had to open up the roof and talk to miniature versions of the cast. It was just so cool. I’ve never done anything like that, and it was really thrilling.”

In the same interview, Rauch disclosed that she needed some preparation to find Bernadette’s high-pitched voice seven years after The Big Bang Theory ended. “I’m so grateful for Bernadette’s voice because voice has always been my way into characters,” the Night Court actress said. “So the minute that I was able to start speaking like her, it just felt like putting on a comfy old robe. It’s like, okay, I know who she is because I’m able to get into that higher register.”
