Tesla Cybertruck

Over the course of three days, this man transformed his Tesla Cybertruck into a fully remote-controlled vehicle.

It was undoubtedly an ambitious project, but for this YouTuber, it was worth every ounce of effort.

But what came at the end of this experiment was sadly a very destructive finale.

Was this how things were meant to go? Or was all this a project that got way out of hand?

Remote-controlled cars are still something of a novelty

When we think of remote-controlled cars, we usually think of cars of the toy variety.

Not that it diminishes them – after all, Lewis Hamilton got his start thanks to one.

One man even splashed out $15,000 on an RC Lamborghini, which came with a real engine.

And then there was this $7,000 Audi, which was small but certainly wasn’t lacking in detail.

As impressive as these cars are, there’s been a lack of remote-controlled cars which are life sized.

And that’s where this YouTuber steps in.

This man created a RC Tesla Cybertruck over the course of three days

YouTube channel Prop Department wanted to create a remote-controlled Tesla Cybertruck.

“Today we’re building the world’s first fully remote control Tesla Cybertruck,” the host announced.

“Luckily, this project is for WhistlinDiesel, so disaster is the goal.”

Anyone who has a passing familiarity with WhistlinDiesel’s work will know the team has a penchant for chaos and destruction.

You just need to look at the whole Ferrari saga to see proof of that.

Physical mechanical controls were built inside the cab, with a stepper motor mounted to the steering wheel.

Servo motors were then attached to the accelerator pedal and gear buttons.

There were some hurdles along the way, which made a self-driving Cybertruck a tricky prospect.

For one, they realized that the in-cabin radar could push the car into ‘Park’ when it didn’t detect a driver in the cabin, which prompted them to unplug it.

The unfortunate end of this project

Now, it was time for WhistlinDiesel to get his hands on his new play-thing.

As is often the case with Cody Detwiler, it ended in a ball of fire.

He launched the Cybertruck down a race track and crashed it into the side of a stationary Ford F-150.

The poor F-150 was completely obliterated, while the Cybertruck managed to fare slightly better – though not by much.

At the end of the day, WhistlinDiesel still wasn’t all that impressed with the Cybertruck.

“If I were to say my actual opinions on the Cybertruck, I think it’s more of a car… It feels like a beefy Model 3. It doesn’t really do truck things,” Detwiler said.

“The more durable truck was the F-150. It is the winner of the durability test. [The Cybertruck] went to the shop six or seven times. The F-150 did not go to the shop one time.”
