The Chicago Bulls did not simply post their 2026-27 schedule. They turned its release into a video-game mission.
Chicago unveiled its new regular-season slate with “Benny’s Schedule Release Mission,” an elaborate GTA-inspired short film starring longtime mascot Benny the Bull. The concept drops Benny into a stylized version of Chicago built around the visual language of an open-world crime game, complete with missions, character interactions, city landmarks and a string of basketball-related Easter eggs.
The story begins when Bulls forward Matas Buzelis contacts Benny with an assignment: retrieve the team’s 2026-27 schedule before it falls into the wrong hands. From there, the mascot navigates Chicago as though he were the playable character in a Grand Theft Auto mission, with the schedule itself becoming the objective rather than simply information appearing on screen.
The Bulls filled the production with references that reward NBA fans for paying attention. Among the moments noticed by viewers were a nod to Bam Adebayo’s recent 2K rating comments, jokes involving Chicago landmarks and local culture, opposing NBA stars appearing as background characters and the familiar “Drive home safely, Chicago” phrase associated for decades with legendary Bulls broadcaster Neil Funk.
Even the presentation of the schedule itself remains committed to the concept. Rather than interrupting the story with a conventional graphic, Chicago eventually incorporates the 2026-27 games into the end-credit sequence after Benny completes his mission.

Behind the creativity was an actual schedule worth unveiling. Chicago will begin its season on October 21 in Toronto against the Raptors, before returning to the United Center for its home opener three nights later. The NBA released the full 2026-27 regular-season schedule Thursday.
The production continues a league-wide trend in which schedule-release day has evolved into a competition of its own. Teams increasingly use animation, comedy, pop-culture references and elaborate storytelling to make what was once a routine list of dates into shareable entertainment.
Chicago may have produced one of the most ambitious versions yet.
