The upcoming overhaul of Netflix‘s content library will see a number of iconic sports dramas and several animated classics depart from the fan-favorite streaming platform. Among the titles parting ways with the service is an Oscar-winning R-rated comedy that features a star-studded cast featuring Emma Stone, Margaret Qualley, and Mark Ruffalo.
Emma Stone-led Poor Things to leave Netflix next month
Yorgos Lanthimos’ Oscar-winning film Poor Things will be leaving Netflix next month. The movie will officially exit the platform on September 7, 2026.
The story of Poor Things follows the resurrection of Bella Baxter, who is brought back to life by maverick scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter. Given a second chance at life, Bella gradually becomes more and more curious about the outside world and decides to give in to her desire for learning by running off with Duncan Wedderburn, a cunning and decadent lawyer. As she embarks on an eventful adventure across continents, Bella begins to grasp and eventually stand for the concepts of equality and liberation.
In addition to Emma Stone and Margaret Qualley, the all-star lineup of Poor Things also includes Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, Christopher Abbott, Ramy Youssef, Hanna Schygulla, and Carminho, among others. As well as leading the cast, Stone also served as a producer on the film.
On release, Poor Things earned largely positive reviews from critics and earned a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also took home four Oscars from 11 nominations, including the Best Actress award for Emma Stone. This was Stone’s second time taking home the Oscar for Best Actress after previously winning for her performance in the Damien Chazelle film La La Land. The movie also impressed at the worldwide box office, ending its theatrical run with a global collection of over $117.6 million, as per Box Office Mojo.
