President Donald Trump is losing steam with Hispanic men after they helped propel him to the White House in 2024, according to CNN’s chief data analyst.
The cable network’s Harry Enten presented stats showing that during 2024 election, Hispanic men preferred Trump to former Vice President Kamala Harris. That helped Trump flip Arizona back into his column after losing it in 2020 and helped him become the first Republican presidential candidate to win Nevada since George W. Bush in 2004.
But Enten said that now, 51 percent of Hispanic men disapprove of Trump’s performance as president.
“That is a 51-point switcheroo against the President of the United States,” the data guru said. “All of that movement that you saw, that historic performance President Trump had amongst Hispanic men.”
The numbers come after Hispanic voters helped Democrats win the off-year races in Virginia and New Jersey in 2025. Democrats also hope that Trump’s decline with Hispanics can help them flip Texas’ Senate race, a congressional district in the heavily Puerto Rican Lehigh Valley and the governorship in Nevada.
Democratic candidates like Texas Senate nominee James Talarico have advertised in Spanish during the World Cup while Democrats hope to reverse some of the trends in the Rio Grande Valley.
Enten said that Trump’s chief struggle with Hispanic men comes down to the economy. In 2024, Trump had an 11-point lead with Hispanic men against Harris. Many Hispanic male voters criticized the increased cost of living during the Biden administration, particularly on gas and grocery prices.
“Look at now, his net approval rating here is 49 points underwater in average polls,” Enten said to host John Berman. “That is a 60-point move away from the president of the United States on the issue of the key question that got him re-elected to a second term.”
Many of Trump’s policies have forced the cost of living to increase under his presidency. Last year, his “Liberation Day” announcement of reciprocal tariffs caused prices to spike, though the Supreme Court eventually struck them down.
Then, Trump launched a war in Iran. That led to the Iranian regime closing off the Strait of Hormuz, through which one fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. That caused gas prices to skyrocket to well over $4 a gallon.
Enten said that the dissatisfaction is causing Republicans to take a hit on the economy, historically one of the party’s strong suits. In 2024, Republicans won Hispanic men by eight points. But now, Democrats have a 20-point lead with Hispanic men.
“That is, as I finish this out, a 28-point swing against the Republican Party,” Enten said.
Some Republicans have warned the president not to continue to aggressively deport immigrants who might be in the country illegally but did not commit violent crimes. Others have hoped that Democrats electing socialist candidates in primaries might put off Cuban-American voters in places like Miami, where many residents fled Fidel Castro’s regime or are the children of people who fled.
But so far, it does not seem to have as much effect nationwide.
