Arsenal are closing in on the signing of England international centre-back Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa, according to David Ornstein.
Arsenal were dealt a heavy blow heading into the new season after William Saliba suffered an injury in the recently concluded World Cup campaign.
While the full extent of the 25-year-old’s injury is yet to be established, a statement on Arsenal’s official website has confirmed that Saliba is expected to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
‘Subsequent specialist reviews on William’s return to London this week have confirmed that he has suffered a back injury which will require a period of rehabilitation,’ the report reads.
‘William’s rehabilitation will commence immediately, with continual management of his injury, and he is expected to be out of action for an extended period. ‘
The club are looking to sign cover and have been heavily linked with Villa’s Konsa, with reports via Football Talk revealing that Arsenal have expressed interest in the Englishman.
A deal appears to be nearing completion, as David Ornstein reports that Arsenal are closing in on a transfer of Konsa to the Emirates Stadium.

Writing on The Athletic, the transfer expert adds that the former Brentford centre-back has been an appealing target for Mikel Arteta’s side all summer due to his ability to play at both centre-back and right-back positions.
Following reports that the Europa League winners will likely demand a fee well above Konsa’s £38m Transfermarkt valuation. Ornstein claims talks are now advancing between Arsenal’s and Villa’s ownership to reduce the England international’s valuation.
In a separate report from Fabrizio Romano, talks between the clubs are in the final stages, and the Englishman has told his club he wants to move to the Emirates.
Few centre-backs in the Premier League can match Konsa’s consistency when it comes to both reliability and availability. He has established himself as one of the league’s most dependable performers, rarely missing games while maintaining a consistently high level whenever called upon.
His durability is underlined by the fact that he has missed just 11 Premier League matches across the past four seasons. That remarkable consistency has made him a key figure in Villa’s recent progress, including their two top-four finishes in the last three campaigns.
Konsa enjoyed another excellent 2025/26 season, making 48 appearances across all competitions and playing an important role as Villa finally ended their 30-year wait for a major trophy by lifting the UEFA Europa League.
With talks now advancing, his potential addition would be another ambitious statement from Arsenal as they challenge for domestic and continental silverware next season.
