Ezri Konsa is set to undergo his medical on Thursday after Arsenal reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign the defender in a £51m deal, widespread reports claim today.
The Gunners boasted the best defence in the league on the way to winning the Premier League title last season – conceding just 27 goals in their 38 games compared to Man City’s 35.
However, Mikel Arteta has still been keen to further strengthen his ranks at the back this summer and Konsa has widely been regarded as the Spaniard’s primary target.
After prolonged talks between the two clubs, Arsenal have finally found a breakthrough with David Ornstien breaking the news on Wednesday afternoon that a deal has been agreed with Aston Villa.
The Athletic reporter claims that Arsenal will pay £51m plus unspecified add-ons for the 6ft defender, and Konsa is set to undergo his medical on Thursday after saying his goodbyes at Villa Park.
Konsa to Arsenal ‘here we go’
Fabrizio Romano followed Ornstien to confirm the deal with his trademark ‘here we go’ – claiming that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Villa for Konsa’s signature – although the Italian reports the fee to be £50m.

Assuming all goes to plan with the medical tests, Konsa will complete his move to the Emirates Stadium and become Arsenal’s fourth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier.
The 28-year-old will give Arteta another top quality option in defence and he won’t need any time to settle in the Premier League having proven himself to be a reliable operator during his time at Villa.
The England international is comfortable at centre-back but is also capable of playing at right-back, so his versatility will be useful – particularly with William Saliba facing up to three months on the sidelines with a back injury.
Jurrien Timber is also struggling for fitness while Ben White has suffered from injury problems over the past two years, so Konsa will give Arteta another top class option at right-back.
Arsenal’s defence and midfield now boast formidable depth, so Arteta is now expected to turn his attention to strengthening in attack during the final weeks of the transfer window.
