Day one of the Esports World Cup 2026 playoffs has come to a close. The day began with G2 v. Astralis and FUT v. magic, then was followed up with FURIA v. Aurora and GamerLegion v. MOUZ.

G2 2-1 Astralis Denmark

Astralis’ map pick of Ancient was up first. Astralis opened with a convincing breach of the A site, winning the pistol round and building real momentum. G2 decided to force up in the following round and lost, leading Astralis to an early economy advantage, and they capitalized with four more consecutive round wins. G2 did fight back, though, and finished the half out 7-5 in favor of Astralis. Unfortunately for G2, they would only have one more round win on the map, with Astralis completely taking over and winning Ancient 13-6.

Despite this slow start, G2 was able to have their map pick of Dust 2 up next. The map began with a dominant pistol round from G2, being able to pick up four kills and plant the bomb. Following the pistol round, G2 won seven straight rounds before Astralis rebutted with three round wins of their own, but the half finished 9-3. The second pistol round was again won by G2, and at this point Astralis seemed out of the game. Although Astralis fought back with three more rounds, they were no match for G2 and Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač, who boasted a rating of 1.79 to take Dust 2, 13-6.

The next map of Inferno followed the same swift gameplay that was seen on Dust 2, with G2 taking the first half at 7-5 on the less favorable T-side, leaving them to dominate their CT-side at 6-2. Throughout this match, Astralis did not have a lead on G2 at any point besides the first pistol round.

FUT 2-1 magic

magic picked Ancient as the starting map, and instantly proved on their T-side why they picked this map, picking up three round wins in a row before FUT could answer. The half reached its climax when magic’s Nikita “tenzy” Kochenyuk won a 1v4 to make the half 4-2; from there it snowballed into an 8-4 half. The second half was much closer, but ultimately magic took map one 13-9.

FUT picked Anubis but started on the CT side on one of the most T-favored maps in the game. Despite this handicap, they still went up in the first half 7-5, and with FUT claiming seven rounds, their T-side was a breeze, finishing the map out at 13-7.

Map three was played on Mirage, and with FUT having all the momentum, they finished their first half out at 9-3 off the back of a stellar CT-side performance from Aulon “Krabeni” Fazlija, who posted a 1.65 rating on the side. The second half was slower for FUT, but they were able to put it away at 13-8, winning the match.

Brazil FURIA 2-1 Aurora

The game started on Aurora’s pick of Ancient, and it immediately showed that Aurora picked it. Aurora won the pistol convincingly and showed no signs of slowing down, taking the half 8-4. The second pistol was won by FURIA, with them only losing one player, making Aurora sweat; this pistol was the catalyst to a series of five more round wins. Aurora began to rebuttal, but FURIA regained control, leading to FURIA’s eventual win of the map in a nail-biter 13-11.

FURIA picked Nuke, and although losing initial momentum by losing the pistol and the two follow-ups, they fought back to make the first half end 5-7. The second half was more in FURIAs favor as this time they won the pistol; Aurora, however, did not let this get to them as they fought tooth and nail for overtime, which allowed Aurora to win FURIA’s map pick, 16-14.

The third map was left to Mirage and seemed to be completely controlled by Aurora because, despite losing the pistol, they went on a big run to take the half 9-3. FURIA was not going to let this stop them as Danil “molodoy” Golubenko led his team to ten-round wins in a row, winning the map 13-9 and the game.

MOUZ 2-1 GamerLegion

The match began with MOUZ’s pick of Mirage. Although MOUZ never seemed to have too much of an advantage over GamerLegion, and the half went back and forth, ending 6-6. The same pattern continued in the second half; however, MOUZ’s Lotan “Spinx” Giladi stood out with a 1.66 rating and led his team to a four-round win streak, closing out the map 13-11.

The next map was GamerLegion’s choice of Ancient, and yet again the two teams seemed incredibly evenly matched. GamerLegion won the pistol, but MOUZ ended up winning the half 7-5. In the second half, GamerLegion won the pistol once more, but this time held on to the half at 7-5 to force overtime. In overtime, the back-and-forth style continued, with the map going to three overtimes before GamerLegion won.

The final map was left to be Nuke, and this time GamerLegion seemed to all but run away with it, winning the first half 10-2 and setting up what should have been an easy close-out to the game. Unfortunately for GamerLegion, MOUZ played nearly flawlessly, with the whole team having a rating over 1.5, and MOUZ was able to steal the map right out from under GamerLegion, winning the map 13-11 and the series 2-1.

Tomorrow, the Esports World Cup will host another set of four matches to finish the round of 16:

NAVI v. Legacy Brazil
Falcons v. The MongolZ
FaZe v. Vitality
Spirit v. B8
