Brad Pitt joins Peter Zumthor documentary in an unusual role
According to a recent report published byThe Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt has partnered with Wim Wenders for his upcoming documentary, titled From Inside Out — The Architecture of Peter Zumthor. This time around, however, the 62-year-old actor will be working behind the scenes rather than featuring in front of the camera, having joined the project as an executive producer.
As such, the feature will open with the credit, “Brad Pitt presents.” Filmed over a period of 14 years, From Inside Out puts some of Peter Zumthor’s most iconic buildings in the spotlight, including the first family homes he designed in the Alps as well as the sprawling new Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) that the Pritzker Prize-winning architect completed this year.
Zumthor’s designs for the new LACMA initially drew much backlash upon their release. Interestingly, Brad Pitt backed the Swiss architect, going as far as to speak at a decisive L.A. County hearing in 2019. Many consider his support key in getting the project over the line.
Therefore, the Brad Pitt credit attached to the documentary’s title actually commemorates the actor’s “personal support for the project and his admiration for both Peter Zumthor and Wim Wenders,” according to the movie’s producers. Pitt holds no financial interest in the film, and his Plan B production company did not involve itself in making it.
Wenders’ Road Movies and DCM produced From Inside Out, filming it in 3D to immerse viewers in the spaces Zumthor creates. The documentary is set to premiere out of competition at the Venice Film Festival next month.
