The last bit of NA left in this year’s Esports World Cup, Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken, has been eliminated in 2-0 fashion. FaZe were poised with the task of taking down the number four-ranked team in Vitality.
Despite a close first map, Vitality dominated the flow of the whole match and took down FaZe in two maps.
The series started with Vitality’s pick of Dust2, a map that hasn’t given Vitality the recent success they have hoped for. The pistol and follow-up were narrowly won by Vitality, but FaZe rebutted quickly with a round of their own. FaZe were able to control most of the first half, but a loss on a crucial force from Vitality tied the score at the half 6-6.
FaZe kept the momentum early in the second, but a few mistakes and another force-round mishap let Vitality take the map 13-11.
The second map was FaZe’s home map, Cache. Vitality seemed to carry over all the force they had on the previous map onto this one. FaZe won a force round second, but a loss against pistols allowed Vitality to get a streak going, winning six rounds in a row before FaZe called a timeout and soon got one to finish the half off 8-4.
This shaky start from FaZe was their undoing, losing the pistol and the follow-up, beginning a half where they only took two rounds, giving Vitality an easy 13-6 victory and the advancement to the next round.
