The second day of playoffs at the Esports World Cup wrapped up today, and it was a very different story than yesterday. Each of the four matches went all three maps yesterday, while every round-of-16 match today was a 2-0 sweep.
Legacy secured a huge upset victory over NAVI to book a spot in the quarterfinals, only compounding the European team’s misery of late. Falcons, the reigning Major Champions, came up against The Mongolz. The IEM Cologne winners had little trouble against the Mongolians, winning 2-0.
The single quarterfinal match delivered the day’s only three-map series, albeit none of the maps were close. FURIA won 2-1 with blowouts on maps one and three, despite G2 running over the Brazilian side on map two.
Legacy 2-0 NAVI 
Legacy chose to start the series on Inferno, where the Brazilians immediately took the lead. A 4-0 T-side start was converted into a 10-2 edge at halftime, all but putting NAVI away. The Europeans battled in the second half, but it was too little too late as Legacy held on to win the map 13-7.
NAVI looked to find a foothold on Ancient, but there was no joy to be found in the second map. Legacy began with a six-round streak that eventually turned into another 10-2 lead after their CT side. NAVI were given no chance in the jungle, as Legacy took the second map in even more commanding fashion, 13-2, to clinch the sweep.
Legacy were led by Vinicius “n1ssim” Pereira, who was recently moved back into the active roster. The Brazilian put up a huge 36 frag performance against NAVI to lead his side to the quarterfinals.
Falcons 2-0 The MongolZ 
Falcons sprinted out to an immediate 6-1 lead on The MongolZ’s Inferno pick. The MongolZ were only able to secure three rounds in their first-half T side, trailing 9-3 at the break. Falcons didn’t give the Mongolians a way back into the map, winning the first map 13-3 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Dust2 was a much closer affair, as both sides went back-and-forth in the first half. Falcons inched ahead of The Mongolz to hold a 7-5 lead at halftime. The MongolZ briefly tied it at 7-7, but the Falcons took control right back. The EU side surrendered just two more rounds to win the map 13-9 and the series 2-0.

FURIA 2-1 G2
The series began with G2’s Ancient pick, a map which has traditionally been FURIA’s perma-ban. You wouldn’t have known that, though, watching this game. After a cagey start that left both teams tied at 2-2, FURIA took control on the CT side and sprinted to a 9-3 halftime lead. A flawless second half gave FURIA an easy 13-3 win on Ancient.
G2 hit the Uno Reverse card in the second map of Anubis, where they haven’t won in their last four outings. The European side steadily racked up rounds to build a 9-3 halftime lead. G2’s defense was impenetrable in the second half, as they secured a 13-3 win of their own in the second map.
Dust2 saw the pendulum swing back in FURIA’s favor, as they took another 9-3 lead at halftime on the T side. Led by a Danil “molodoy” Golubenko masterclass in the final map, FURIA won 13-4 off the back of the Kazakh sniper’s 24-4 performance.
molodoy’s third map performance propelled him ahead of all others, boasting a 47-21 K/D across the series.
In the other quarterfinal matches, FaZe were eliminated by Vitality in the quarterfinal and Spirit swept B8 aside to move onto the semis thanks to an outstanding series from Danil “donk” Kryshkovets.

After winning today’s only quarterfinal match, FURIA await the winner of FUT v. MOUZ.
