Gregory Rodrigues and Anthony Hernandez went to war in the UFC Sacramento main event, and they’ll both have the scars to show for it.
On Monday, the California State Athletic Commission released the medical suspensions stemming from the event with both main event fighters looking at potential six-month layoffs due to eerily similar injuries.
Rodrigues, who ultimately earned a unanimous decision win in the fight, is looking at a potential six-month layoff due to “possible fracture to right leg” that has to be cleared by a physician if he hopes to come back any sooner.
As for Hernandez, he’s facing a similar six-month suspension if he doesn’t get cleared by a physician for a “possible fracture to the left knee.” During the fight, Hernandez ate numerous nasty leg kicks from Rodrigues that actually took him off his feet.
Now he may be looking at a lengthy layoff from the damage done.
Despite winning his fight via knockout in impressive fashion, Marquel Mederos is also looking at a possible six month suspension unless he’s cleared by a physician for a possible fracture to his right orbital bone.
The same goes for top prospect Larryan Douglas, who was issued a possible six-month suspension for a potential fracture to his right orbital. After Douglas’ fight was over, his coach Cub Swanson confirmed the broken orbital bone, which will need to heal before he’s allowed to compete again.
The only other potential six-month suspension came from the opening bout on the card with Elise Reed requiring physician’s clearance for a possible fracture to her nose.
