The man who owns the Chiron Pur Sport that Mat Armstrong rebuilt has revealed what Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac said to him when they met.
While appearing on a podcast, Alex G got candid about an awkward encounter with Mate Rimac at Monterey Car Week.
This came after months of tension surrounding the Bugatti project.
Would things be as icy in person or would seeing each other face-to-face provide an opportunity for reconciliation?
Mat Armstrong and his various Bugatti projects have become the stuff of internet legend
If you’re into cars and have spent time online, you’ll have no doubt heard about Mat Armstrong and his ongoing Bugatti projects.
His Veyron rebuild has particularly proven troublesome along the way, but it’s also provided him with some opportunities.
For example, he managed tosecure himself a cheap oil service.
And then there was the timehe managed to get the supercar driving with the help of a $3 repair part.
But there was another project he had on the go – the $6 million Chiron Pur Sport that Bugatti had refused to supply parts for.
Despite the issues that he faced along the way, he finished the project.
But just because the car is finished, that doesn’t mean the story is over.
What Mate Rimac said about the Chiron Pur Sport at Monterey Car Week
Appearing on the Road To Success Podcast, the Chiron’s owner Alex G spoke to host Benedict Fowler about an encounter he’d had with Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac.
You may recall that Rimac and Armstrong have exchanged words over the former’s rebuilds, often leading to speculations of a feud.
Since Bugatti had refused to supply parts towards rebuilds, this had frustrated Armstrong’s progress at points.
But now, Alex G had the opportunity to speak to Rimac face-to-face while attending Monterey Car Week.
Approaching him to squash the beef, the two seemed cordial enough.
Then things took an interesting turn.
You see, the one thing left to acquire for the Chiron Pur Sport is a windshield, and Alex figured he would ask Rimac if Bugatti could supply it.
This prompted Rimac to remove his sunglasses and reply: “I thought you could 3D print everything.”
Ouch.
