To have success, Benn must cross mid-range without being caught clean. That is where Garcia controls fights with his hand speed and leverage. Hanging outside would allow him to pick Benn apart, but rushing forward means accepting the risk of walking into a counter that he may not see.
The blueprint changes if Benn survives the early exchanges. Garcia has struggled when opponents remain against his chest, turn him, and deny him the room needed to load up. He also pulls straight backward with his chin raised when pressured. Benn’s chance is to make the fight ugly rather than trade clean punches from Garcia’s preferred distance.
The weight cut adds another concern. Benn fought Chris Eubank Jr. twice at middleweight in 2025 before meeting Regis Prograis at a 150-pound catchweight in April. He must now make 147 for the first time since April 2022.
“He’s going to use the weight as an excuse when he loses, one million percent,” Garcia said. “But there is no mercy here. He forced himself into this position. I don’t have any sympathy for him.”
Dropping those final three pounds may not sound severe, but Benn has spent years building his body for heavier fights. A cut that weakens his punch resistance or drains his legs would make an early finish more believable. Garcia has grown comfortably into welterweight and carries the natural size to punish Benn during his entries.
Neither boxer is known for remaining emotionally detached. Benn’s aggression can become uncontrolled, while Garcia sometimes discards his jab and hunts too eagerly for the left hook. Failing to get the quick knockout he expects may tempt Garcia into the rough inside fight Benn needs.
During Tuesday’s media workout in Calabasas, Garcia looked sharp hitting the mitts with assistant trainer PJ Shirdan as his father and head coach, Henry Garcia, watched. A controlled workout says little about how he will react when Benn begins crowding him, but Garcia presented a calmer figure than the disorder that has followed him during previous camps.
The winner will remain in position for lucrative welterweight fights. Garcia has already mentioned WBA champion Teofimo Lopez and WBO champion Devin Haney. Beating Benn would strengthen his bargaining position for either matchup. Losing to a challenger dropping from middleweight would shred Garcia’s claim that he is ready to rule the division.
Predicting an early demolition makes total sense for Ryan given how Benn enters exchanges, yet banking on a quick finish overlooks Benn’s granite chin.
Benn charges forward in straight lines with his chin up, throwing wide winging hooks. That aggression walks right into Garcia’s check left hook, which remains one of the most explosive single-punch counters in boxing. If Benn lunges without setting up his offense behind a jab, Garcia can time him early and end the night quickly.
In his fights with Chris Eubank Jr., Benn proved that he can take severe punishment and keep pressing forward. He possesses genuine grit, and his punch resistance at middleweight held up against a much larger puncher. Even if Ryan catches him flush, Benn has the engine to survive wobbles, clinch, and make the fight an ugly, grueling trench war on the inside.
What we’ve seen is that Ryan also tends to get impatient when his power fails to produce an immediate blowout. When opponents refuse to fall, he often abandons his jab, pulls straight back with his head high, and looks solely for the home run shot. That bad habit leaves him vulnerable to Benn’s overhand rights.
Physically, Garcia has the speed and precision to drop Benn within the first four rounds, but stopping him outright before round six requires a level of disciplined finishing Garcia rarely shows. Benn will absorb heavy damage early, survive the storm, and force Garcia to work far deeper into the fight than Ryan’s five-round prediction suggests.
