Brad Pitt took on an unexpected challenge for Heart of the Beast. The actor had to work as a dog trainer while filming the survival thriller with his canine co-star, Uber, who plays Odin. Directed by David Ayer, the film follows a former Special Forces officer stranded in the Alaskan wilderness.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ayer explained that the actor had to manage the dog without breaking character. He said, “We put Odin number one on the call sheet.” He revealed that Pitt “really considered himself as a supporting actor to the dog, but he’s also the dog trainer.”
Pitt therefore had to juggle multiple responsibilities during filming. According to Ayer, the actor had to “stay in character, create that presence, do his amazing craft as an actor” while also managing the dog. The director noted that Uber could suddenly become distracted, even by something as minor as a bee flying past him. He praised Pitt’s ability to handle everything, calling it “really unbelievable.”
Pitt also opened up to Entertainment Weekly about working with Uber. He revealed that the dog appears in around 95% of the movie and admitted that the experience was “challenging” because “dogs don’t necessarily know their lines.” Pitt said he kept treats with him and called Uber back whenever the dog wandered off during emotional scenes.

What do we know about Heart of the Beast
Heart of the Beast follows James Belmont (Pitt), a former Special Forces officer who travels to the Alaskan wilderness with his retired combat dog, Odin. Their trip takes a dangerous turn when their plane crashes in Alaska. The two must rely on each other as they attempt to survive the harsh environment and find their way home.
Ayer directed the film from a screenplay by Cameron Alexander. Ayer also serves as a producer alongside Pitt, Olivia Hamilton, and Marty Bowen. The film’s cast also includes J. K. Simmons and Anna Lambe. It reunites Pitt with Ayer after their 2014 war drama Fury. The film was shot in Queenstown, New Zealand.
Heart of the Beast will arrive in theaters on September 25, 2026.
