Олон улсын хөлбөмбөгийн холбооны (FIFA) тэргүүн Жанни Инфантино 2027 онд болох ерөнхийлөгчийн сонгуульд дахин нэр дэвших төлөвлөгөөгөө өөрчлөхгүй гэдгээ мэдэгдлээ. Тэрээр 2016 оноос хойш тус байгууллагыг удирдаж байгаа бөгөөд дөрөвдүгээр сард дараагийн дөрвөн жилийн хугацаанд албан тушаалаа үргэлжлүүлэн хаших хүсэлтэй байгаагаа зарласан юм.

FIFA has reiterated that Gianni Infantino will stand for a fourth term, despite the widespread opposition to the president of world football’s governing body remaining in office.
Infantino has been under intense pressure since abandoning his failed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) scheme that would have seen the governing body sell a minority stake in its commercial and event operations, including the men’s and women’s World Cup, to private investors.
UEFA, European football’s governing body, has made no secret of its desire for Infantino to resign and recently raised the stakes by lodging several legal filings across the United States in an attempt to force him out.
The 56-year-old has served as FIFA president since 2016, replacing Sepp Blatter, who resigned the year prior after a series of scandals.
Infantino was re-elected as president unopposed in 2019 and 2023, and announced in April that he intended to stand for another four-year term in 2027. He had initially held the support of the AFC, CONMEBOL and the African Football Federation (CAF).
And despite the widespread scrutiny on his position, FIFA says Infantino has not changed his plans.
A FIFA spokesperson told The Athletic: “The FIFA President announced in April that he will stand for re-election in 2027. Of course, nothing has changed. Mr Infantino will be standing for re-election.”
Two days after FIFA revealed the details of the controversial FFE plan, UEFA, the European football confederation, announced that its nations would boycott FIFA competitions in protest, saying that it “unanimously and unequivocally reject FIFA’s proposal”. Concacaf, the confederation of North and Central America and the Caribbean, also rejected the plans in a statement.
The Asian Football Confederation subsequently released a statement saying that it “stands in solidarity” with UEFA and Concacaf and that it had “serious concerns” about the plans. It added that it “considers this issue extends far beyond a single proposal”.
South America’s CONMEBOL said that financial and commercial decisions “must always serve the interests of football and never take precedence over its essence”.
Infantino subsequently issued a statement confirming that the proposal would not go ahead.
“Having listened carefully to all the views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place,” he said.
“Moving forward, my intent is to bring all interested parties back together in the coming days and weeks in the spirit of shared interest in our game, and with the objective to continue growing football everywhere, particularly in those countries that mostly need our support.”
Infantino has been at the centre of several controversies during his tenure as FIFA president. At this year’s World Cup, he faced heavy criticism for skyrocketing ticket prices, while the overturning of USMNT striker Folarin Balogun’s one-match ban was also widely condemned.
The latter followed a call to Infantino from U.S. president Donald Trump, with the pair having built a close relationship. Infantino awarded the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize to Trump in December, with non-profit organisation and advocacy group FairSquare submitting an official complaint to FIFA’s Ethics Committee, alleging “repeated breaches” of FIFA’s duty of political neutrality.
Other controversies include Infantino’s infamous “today I feel…” monologue prior to the 2022 World Cup in response to criticisms of human rights and the treatment of migrant workers in Qatar, as well as a failed attempt to orchestrate a handshake between Israeli and Palestinian delegates at this year’s annual FIFA congress.
