Fans looking forward to seeing Tom Holland put on the Spider-Man mask may not have to wait long. Sony Pictures has yet to officially announce Spider-Man 5, but the studio has provided an intriguing update on the franchise.
This year marks the tenth year of Holland playing everyone’s favorite wall-crawler, with the actor starring in his latest blockbuster, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Speaking to Variety, Sony Pictures CEO Ravi Ahuja confirmed that the studio has not finalized a release date for the next Holland-led Spidey film. “We don’t have a date for it yet,” he said. “A couple years usually, but there’s a Spider-Verse movie coming next year.”
Sony Pictures followed a consistent two-year gap between live-action Spider-Man films from 2017 to 2021. However, the studio took five years to develop Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Given director Destin Daniel Cretton’s busy schedule, it looks like Spider-Man 5 will take longer to arrive on screens. The character is expected to appear in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers movies.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is the next Spider-Verse movie
While Holland’s next Spider-Man film may take a while to release, fans can get their fill of the webhead in next summer’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The conclusion to the critically acclaimed animated franchise will follow Miles Morales on a journey across the Spider-verse to defeat the Spot.
While excitement for the film is at an all-time high, it suffered an unfortunate leak recently. As a result, the project has faced delays from its original target of March 2024. At the time of writing, Beyond the Spider-Verse is scheduled to release on June 18, 2027.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on its way to break a rare box office record. The film has already become the highest-grossing Spider-Man film of all time.
