Many delays later, The Batman Part IIfinally started production earlier this summer. After Robert Pattinson got the ball rolling on talking up the sequel’s greatness, it’s Sebastian Stan’s turn to whet some fans’ whistles.
As part of a larger conversation about his upcoming film Fjord,hetold Variety how excited he is to enter the DC universe. Though his career has boosted thanks to Marvel, the actor called Batman the “most recognizable” superhero he saw growing up in Europe. Since he’s been Bucky Barnes for over a decade, he never thought DC movies were in the cards for him. Then, as he told it, two things happened: director Matt Reeves sought him out after watching and loving 2024’s The Apprentice,and Stan had separately cold-called James Gunn to say he was “ready to rock.”
Just off the latter, it sure seemed Stan could’ve wound up in a DC movie sooner or later. Doing The Batman Part II, he admitted to feeling like he’s done a team switch, a feeling canceled out by using his time as Bucky to inform this new role. “These worlds keep going parallel, and they weirdly help each other,” he said of the relationship between Marvel and DC’s respective films.
As for who Stan’s playing…rumors have pegged him for Harvey “Two-Face” Dent, but he’s staying tight-lipped. To those rumors, all he’d say was that audiences will “fully grasp” the film until they get to watching it. “There’s a lot of speculation about what this is, but I think it’ll be a really good payoff,” he teased. “It’s really grounded and real, and that’s what I loved about it. I go to set sometimes and I look around and I’m like, I think we’re making fucking The Godfather Part II.”
Count us curious as we wait forThe Batman Part IIto hit theaters on February 18, 2028. (Hopefully.)
