Lennox Lewis is hailed as one of the greatest heavyweight world champions in boxing history following his retirement in 2004. Now, one of just two men to have defeated Lewis in a professional ring is set to continue his career at the age of 61 years old.
Lewis maintained his undefeated record on route to his WBC heavyweight title win against Tony Tucker in 1993 and went on to make two defences against Frank Bruno and Phil Jackson before suffering a shocking defeat to Oliver McCall the following year.
Two-and-a-half years later, Lewis would exact his vengeance on ‘The Atomic Bull’, reclaiming the then-vacant WBC marble in that infamous and bizarre rematch, as McCall burst into tears in one of the most unique world title contests of all time.
Yet, over 32 years on from his world title win, McCall is refusing to hang up the gloves and boxed thrice in a seven-month spell between November 2024 and June 2025 (two wins and one draw), which began with a win over Stacy Frazier, nephew of the legendary ‘Smokin’ Joe’ Frazier.
McCall is now hoping to break his own record as the oldest former heavyweight world champion to win a professional boxing bout, in a potential clash against former heavyweight bogeyman and now 53-year-old, Ike Ibeabuchi, as per BoxingScene.
“Ike Ibeabuchi, 53, and Oliver McCall, 61, are pencilled in to meet this Thanksgiving in New York on November 26.
“PrizeFightingTV will only commit to staging the horror show if 12,500 fans pre-book the pay per view for $9.95.”
Ibeabuchi famously defeated David Tua and Chris Byrd and was homing in on a world title shot in the late 1990’s before his arrest, but ‘The President’ ended his 26-year inactive spell last year with two outings in Nigeria – winning once but also suffering a first career defeat.
As stated, the show will only go ahead if 12,500 fans agree to pay for the controversial pay-per-view event, which is being planned for late November.
