ABC’s long-running singing show, American Idol, is all set to leave Hollywood, with its production moving to a new location for its upcoming season. The network announced Season 25 in July. The show’s virtual auditions began on August 25, 2026.
American Idol moving to Georgia for Season 25
According to a report by Deadline, American Idol is leaving Los Angeles and moving production to Atlanta, Georgia. The show’s production company, Fremantle, confirmed the update. However, the company has not made any further statements revealing the main reason behind the move.
The update comes amid a decline in TV and film production in LA, as many projects have relocated elsewhere. Fremantle is currently in talks with a studio complex in Atlanta and may finalize the deal soon.
Georgia has become a favorable destination for many TV and film productions because of the benefits studios receive. The state reportedly offers an estimated 30% tax credit for reality TV and unscripted shows, provided companies spend at least $500,000 to produce them. This is also seen as one of the main reasons behind American Idol’s relocation.
On the other hand, California’s tax credits are currently limited to large-scale competition series with a budget of at least $1 million. Moreover, unscripted productions were only recently added to the tax credit program.
Season 25 of American Idol is expected to arrive in early 2027. Its 24th season was a massive hit, with Hannah Harper winning. Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan remained judges during the last season and are expected to return for Season 25 as well.
Additionally, host Ryan Seacrest is also expected to return in his role. Season 24 premiered in January and wrapped in May. Apart from American Idol, its biggest contender, The Masked Singer, also moved production from California to New Jersey under Fox.
