Aston Villa has reportedly made up their minds about Alejandro Garnacho’s future at the club following his lacklustre start.
After a turbulent end to his five-year Manchester United career, Argentina forward Garnacho joined Premier League rivals Chelsea in August 2025 before moving to Aston Villa on loan over the summer.
The 22-year-old joined Villa on a season-long loan that includes an easily achievable conditional obligation to buy and, despite a disappointing start, Villa have spoken out to confirm they are still committed to their new winger.

Aston Villa address Alejandro Garnacho future after poor start
Much like Harvey Elliott last season, Garnacho has failed to make an impact in his first games as a Villa player and is yet to make a start in the Premier League.
Across Villa’s first six games this season, Garnacho has managed just three substitute appearances, playing a total of 31 minutes without any goals or assists yet.
It appears clear that, as it stands, George Hemmings, Alysson and Ibrahim Mbaye are all ahead of Garnacho in Unai Emery’s pecking order, raising questions about Garnacho’s place in the squad and if the move will really be made permanent in the summer.
But, according to TEAMtalk, Villa sources have insisted that Emery ‘remains a believer’ in Garnacho and the former United star will get more opportunities to prove himself in the near future.
That being said, the sources also claimed that, despite the seemingly easy obligation to buy, Villa have not yet decided about making the move permanent, and will wait to see how Garnacho performs when he does get chances this season.
Once again, this feels increasingly similar to Elliott’s spell with Villa last season, as the Liverpool man reportedly had to make just 10 Premier League appearances for a £35million move to be confirmed.
Instead, Elliott made just four appearances for Villa in the Premier League, returning to Liverpool at the end of the season, who have since sent him on loan to La Liga side Valencia for the 2026/27 campaign.
Unai Emery speaks out on Alejandro Garnacho’s future after major snub
Perhaps the biggest disappointment for Garnacho came as he was not called upon to feature in the 3-1 victory at Coventry City in the Carabao Cup.
But, speaking post-match, Emery stated that the Argentine has to continue to work hard and impress in training if he wants to force his way into selection.
The Spaniard said: “[He has to] continue working. Work, work, train, work. When he can have minutes to play, try and play well.
“George [Hemmings] is playing fantastic; Alysson is also understanding things well and is giving us things I want.
“Alysson is also understanding things well and is giving us things I want. [Ibrahim] Mbaye also responded well. We want a competitive team and players to compete in the style we have.
“Garnacho is a little bit behind because of some circumstances we had in pre-season. It is time to be patient for the time he needs.”
Aston Villa face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in their final match before the three-week international break.
