America’s Got Talent reportedly leaving Los Angeles
As perTMZ, America’s Got Talent will be departing from Los Angeles. Sources told the outlet that the show might film its upcoming season in Georgia or Nashville. TMZ explained that the reason behind this move is money, with other states offering lucrative tax credits and production incentives. Recently, Fremantle confirmed that American Idol will be shifting to the Atlanta area.
L.A. has been dealing with production tumbles, leaving union leaders, film workers, and elected officials concerned. TV production in the L.A. area ended up going down 27% in the second quarter compared to last year, according to nonprofit FilmLA. This is mainly due to fewer reality TV shoots. Last year, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill to increase the cap on film and TV tax incentives from $330 million to $750 million a year.
This week, Governor Gavin Newsom and the Legislature made an important move to ensure California’s status as the biggest job contributor nationwide. The Governor signedSenate Bill 180to extend CalCompetes, the state’s successful business incentive program. The bill extends the program by an additional five years to fiscal year 2032-33, after it was scheduled to sunset next year. This helps boost economic incentives for the coming years. Despite the effort, California is allegedly struggling against states coming up with attractive offers.
This year, Fox’s The Masked Singer also decided to leave its Fox lot in Los Angeles. It decided to move to New Jersey, providing lucrative tax credits. Moreover, ABC’s Shark Tank moved to Atlanta from its Sony lot in CulverCity. As of now,America’s GotTalent’s relocationis yet to beconfirmed.
