Matchbox: The Movie is bringing John Cena and Jessica Biel together for a new action-adventure that follows a group of childhood friends who find themselves caught up in an international crisis. A newly released character clip now offers a closer look at the characters joining Cena as the story unfolds, giving fans a fresh glimpse of the upcoming film and building anticipation ahead of its release.

Matchbox: The Movie follows a group of childhood friends whose lives are turned upside down when Sean, their former leader and a CIA operative, returns to their small hometown. His unexpected arrival pulls them into an international chase, forcing the friends to reunite and work together as they become part of a mission to save the world.
A new 27-second clip from Matchbox: The Movie introduces the group of characters at the center of the upcoming action film. The footage identifies Ted as “the science teacher,” Crosby as “the one afraid of flying,” Charmaine as “the one who flies,” Aimee as “the EMT with speed,” and Sean as “the not-so-secret agent.”
Played by John Cena, Sean is also shown in the middle of a fight, offering a glimpse of the action surrounding his character and the high-stakes adventure that awaits the group.
The film’s earlier trailer shifts the focus from the individual characters to the danger closing in around them. Sean reconnects with his old friends at a bar, but their reunion takes a sudden turn when the group begins losing consciousness.
Before they pass out, Sean warns them, “Everybody listen, we’re all gonna wake up someplace different.” The group soon wakes up aboard a cargo aircraft, where Sean is restrained and questioned about the whereabouts of a nuclear warhead.
Directed by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall, the film stars John Cena and Jessica Biel, alongside Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, and Teyonah Parris. Matchbox: The Movie is scheduled to premiere on October 9, 2026.
