Terry Rozier’s mother is making a personal appeal for her son to return to professional basketball while he awaits trial in a federal sports gambling case.
Gina Tucker recently submitted a letter to U.S. District Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall, asking the court to reconsider restrictions that have complicated the former Miami Heat guard’s efforts to resume his NBA career. Rozier, 32, remains a free agent after missing the entire 2025–26 season.
In her letter, Tucker emphasized the years her son devoted to reaching the NBA and the limited length of a professional athlete’s career. She acknowledged the seriousness of the charges but asked the judge to consider the lasting consequences of keeping Rozier away from the game while his case proceeds.
“I am not asking the Court for special treatment, nor am I attempting to argue the merits of Terry’s case through this letter,” Tucker wrote.
She asked the court to weigh his compliance with its requirements and the potential impact of continued restrictions on his career.
Rozier was arrested in October 2025 in connection with a federal investigation into sports betting. Prosecutors allege that, while playing for the Charlotte Hornets in March 2023, he shared information about his planned early exit from a game that was then used by others to place wagers on his statistical performance. Rozier has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Following his arrest, the NBA placed Rozier on leave, and the Heat subsequently waived him. His bond conditions also restrict his contact with certain individuals connected to the case, including former teammates who could be potential witnesses. Those restrictions present practical obstacles to practicing or playing for an NBA team.
Rozier previously sought permission to practice and play alongside potential witnesses without discussing the case. In July, Judge DeArcy Hall rejected that request, expressing concern that conversations during basketball activities could not be effectively monitored.
Tucker’s latest appeal asks the court to consider whether her son can continue complying with its conditions while returning to the profession he has pursued since childhood. His trial is scheduled for February 2027.
