It might be time for ‘Cowboy’ to hang up the gloves.
Some have suggested retirement is long overdue for Alex Oliveira, a former fan favorite in the UFC who has been competing on the regional scene since 2022.
The Brazilian welterweight and lightweight has been on an MMA world tour since being released by the sport’s leading organization, competing under 12 different banners across seven countries.
Unfortunately, after the result on Friday night, the 38-year-old has lost eight of those bouts.

Former UFC star Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira loses in the first round again
‘Cowboy’ enjoyed a number of memorable UFC performances. One of his final wins came at UFC 248, where Oliveira won a bloody split decision over Max Griffin to temporarily save his job.
He was unable to maintain momentum from that skid-breaking triumph for long, as four straight defeats to Shavkat Rakhmonov, Randy Brown, Niko Price, and Kevin Holland ultimately spelled the end of his time in the Octagon.
Oliveira is now on a losing streak of the same length on the regional scene, and he has not even reached the second round during this difficult run.
The Brazilian’s 2025 campaign ended with a trip to Montenegro, where he was knocked out in under two minutes. This year kicked off with a 41-second submission loss in Georgia, and ‘Cowboy’ remained winless in 2026 when he was finished with strikes in Estonia this past June.
Hoping to bounce back on home soil, Oliveira returned to fighting in Brazil at the third Liga Monstro Combate event.
Instead of a rebound win on September 25, the ex-UFC fighter was stopped with elbows on the ground in round one by 21-17-1 Argentine journeyman Juan Pablo Varela.

That is now six defeats in Oliveira’s last seven fights, which has led to calls for the veteran to call time on his career inside the cage.
Oliveira has many children, fathering 10 kids. That came up ahead of his UFC fight against Price, who advised ‘Cowboy’ to get a vasectomy.
Some have suggested the need to provide for so many is why Oliveira continues to fight despite frequent knockout losses.
