Arriving on Hulu on October 1, the 2024 body-horror film The Substance centers on a fading Hollywood star who resorts to a mysterious black-market drug. The drug promises to create a younger, more perfect version of herself, a decision that quickly spirals into terrifying consequences.
The film stars Demi Moore as Elisabeth Sparkle, a once A-list actress and fitness show host who is fired on her 50th birthday. Margaret Qualley plays Sue, her twenty-something alter ego born from Elisabeth’s own body. Meanwhile, Dennis Quaid portrays Harvey, the ruthless studio executive who discards Elisabeth for being past her prime.
