Brandon Ingram won’t be available for the start of the season, the Clippers announced.
The team discovered a partially torn Achilles tendon in Ingram’s foot during his heel surgery in May. Both issues were dealt with by doctors, however, the Achilles injury was not previously disclosed.
There is currently no timeline for Ingram’s return.
Though, interim president of basketball operations Trent Redden noted the recovery time for a partially torn Achilles is “six months less” than a fully torn Achilles injury.
“It wasn’t until we got our hands on [Ingram] here that we started to see where he was at with his progression,” Redden said. “He won’t be ready for the start of the season, and we’ll reevaluate when we get there.”
Ingram missed the final two games of the Raptors’ first round playoff matchup against the Cavaliers because of the heel injury.
“I had been dealing with some pain throughout the year with the Raptors, especially coming down crunch time with the Raptors. I didn’t quite know what it was. Near the end of the season, we figured out what it was and surgery was the best thing to do,” Ingram said.
The 29-year-old forward was traded to the Clippers earlier this month in exchange for Kawhi Leonard to Toronto. Last season, Ingram averaged 21.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 47.7% from the field 38.2% from three.
