Will Reeve has shared some deeply personal news. Somewhere in Time star Christopher Reeve‘s son has revealed his cancer diagnosis.
ABC News correspondent Will has revealed that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year, opening up about his treatment and recovery in a new interview. The 34-year-old journalist shared the news while reflecting on his parents’ history of public advocacy and their approach to serious illness.
In an exclusive interview with People, Reeve said he first noticed symptoms in April. Doctors diagnosed him with testicular cancer, leading to an orchiectomy. After tests showed that the cancer had spread to his abdomen, he underwent a six-hour retroperitoneal lymph node dissection. He later completed two rounds of chemotherapy.
Reeve said he was declared cancer-free during a routine checkup on September 8. He decided to discuss his experience publicly in part because of the example set by his parents, Christopher and Dana Reeve.
Christopher Reeve, best known for playing Superman, became a prominent advocate for spinal cord injury research after his 1995 accident. He died in 2004. Dana Reeve, who continued that advocacy work, died from lung cancer in 2006.
“I have felt so loved and supported and rooted for by family, friends and strangers alike for my entire life,” Reeve told People. “And that’s a big part of why I wanted to speak about this. I’m going to be fine. But this was a heck of a chapter.”
