Pete Davidson has opened up about how AI helped Doug Liman’s upcoming Bitcoin movie manage production costs. The story takes the characters around the world, which could have pushed the budget to $250 million. Davidson said the team instead utilized AI to make the film “for a smaller amount of money.”

Davidson explained that the film’s global story posed a logistical challenge for the production team. He recalled scenes that move from Iceland to “the other side of the world” before reaching Bangkok. Filming each setting in person would have required the cast and crew to travel extensively.
“The purpose of AI for that was… we were trying to shoot a $250 million movie,” Davidson said. He explained that the technology allowed the production to avoid traveling to every location. This approach helped them maintain the film’s large-scale without the expense of a global shoot.
The actor stressed that AI did not replace the film’s crew. He said, “We had a full crew, we had extras, we had all that stuff.” Instead, the technology helped the production meet its location requirements.
Davidson also shared his concerns about AI. He said deepfake technology is “really scary” to him because he does not fully understand it. Still, he acknowledged that AI will become “a part of our business” as the entertainment industry continues to adopt the technology.
However, Davidson highlighted that he approved of the way the filmmakers used the technology in Bitcoin. He explained, “None of our performances are AI or being altered or anything.” He added that its use was “mostly just for locations,” keeping the focus on expanding the film’s world rather than altering any actor’s performance.
