Manchester United have invested significant amounts of money on rebuilding their midfield and attack over the last 12 months or so. However, there is still a lack of depth and quality in their backline, which they are looking to answer in 2027.
Caught Offside has reported that the Red Devils are keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven. A central defender’s signing is vital for the club for a number of reasons.
Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro are both very inexperienced, Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt have struggled with injuries and most importantly, Harry Maguire is 33 and needs to be replaced sooner rather than later.
Van de Ven is valued at £43 million on Transfermarkt and if Tottenham Hotspur have yet another underwhelming year in the Premier League by next summer, he could be on his way out with interest in his services set to be aplenty.
Excellent signing for Manchester United
Despite all of Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles in the Premier League since the last couple of seasons, Micky van de Ven has been one of the best central defenders not just in the English top flight, but around Europe.
The Dutchman’s signing would significantly bolster Manchester United. His experience in the Premier League will be vital, whereas his age, 25, means he still has a fair share, including the prime years, of his career ahead.
Van de Ven is quick, reads the game superbly and can make recoveries in time. His height of six feet and four inches makes him dominant aerially as well as physically in ground duels, whereas he is also very comfortable playing the ball out from the back.
Essentially, Micky van de Ven ticks all boxes and like his former teammate Cristian Romero, he may also depart Tottenham on a bargain. Man United will be cognisant to developments on his future given that he promises to be a solid signing.
